UCL:Monaco shock Arsenal 3-1

Arsenal got the draw most thought was perfect. Monaco was missing 5 starters and Arsenal was playing at home. 3 factors in their favor. 3 factors on paper. This is the UCL, games are not won on paper.
Arsenal started the game with possession as expected but with no real play on the wings. wingers failed to spread the field and made it easy for the organized Monaco defense. They were not spread out by Arsenals play, so were comfortable staying together. Their organization made Arsenal struggle to break them down.
Kongdogbia was huge in the midfield and found space when needed. He had acres of space in the midfield and chose the right decision in the 38th minute. His strike was deflected by Metesacker and it was enough to beat the goalkeeper to make it 1-0. Exactly where Arsenal did not want to be against a side that had conceeded just one goal in the whole first round.
Coming into the second half Arsenal had to make some changes.They had opportunities but Giroud was off. Two clear chances and he was off. Second one was harder to miss than to score and some how he missed. Arsenal was punished after those misses.
Poor defending after loosing the ball. Arsenal had a chance to score but they never did

On the counter, Metesacker made a big mistake as he gambled and went for the ball. He was more worried of getting beat by pace. He chose the wrong option and was punished when the ball was played behind him. It was easy from then as Berbatove was played in. He could not miss as he made it 2-0
Then came in Walcott who was needed. Arsenal needed a player like him to make runs behind the defenders.He made two great runs but the keeper was there to make important saves. Missed opportunity by Welbeck who saw his shot strike Theo who was down by contact.

Drama at the emirates in the dying minutes as Ox Pulls one back. They looked like they will take a one goal deficit back but again the disorganize play of the gunners was punished again. Koscielny playing high and leaving slow Mertesacker back alone. When Ox lost the ball it was an easy break and the Gunners were punished. Ferreira who came in for Berbatov made it 3-1
Poor performance by the gunners who were wasteful when they created chances. Monaco showed lots of quality in this game. just a reminder that games are not won on papers. Wenger and his men never played the game as a 2 leg encounter. sometimes you have to take what your opponent gives you. They would have been more careful after scoring but they did not. I will blame Wenger for not pointing that to his players who played with no discipline
